Public Health Project

Students will work on plans to stop open defecation and switch to use of individual household latrine use. Current village practices lead create vulnerability of the community towards diarrhoeal diseases, worm infestations and anemia leading to high rates of malnutrition.

Place of study/ observation 3 villages in any rural tribal block

Purpose Understand the background & beliefs amongst populations for such practices; explore on how and what needs to be changed in knowledge and practices for change, offering cost effective doable solutions  

Methodology: 5 Focus Group discussions with villagers / citizens

Develop & deliver conversation classes in a rural school

Students will gain hands-on learning presenting conversation classes to primary school students in a rural school. A good command of English is important to the future of these students. This program presents an excellent opportunity to gain experience and skills in aiding student learning.

Map socio economic demography of Kargil slum and create improvement strategies

The Kargil community is one of Bhubaneswar's largest slum areas. You will be working out of Centurion University's Urban Micro Business Centre under the guidance of its Director. This presents a great opportunity to help improve the lives of some of India's poorest people. Suitable for students with experience in socio economic mapping.

Centurion University is located in Odisha, India's second poorest state and 25% of its population is tribal or indigenous. As you might guess there are plenty of challenges looking for solutions.
